Festivals, Events and Fairs in Tuscany in June 2013

Even though Summer is late this year, the calendar of events in Tuscany is full with festivals and fairs.

Festivals and medieval reenactments

In Malmantile on June 1st and 2nd the medieval festival, while in Chianciano Terme there is the Toscana Fitness Festival, to experience the best sports ever (follow me with the hashtag #toscanafit). In Pisa June is very special with several traditional appointments such as  the Luminara di Pisa on June 16th, the Palio di San Ranieri on June 17th, the regatta on June 23rd and the Gioco del Ponte on June 29th. In Volterra from June 7th to 9th there is Divino Etrusco, four days of wine and food tastings along the streets of Volterra with concerts and exhibits. In Florence on June 15th starts the Calcio Storico Fiorentino with the first match between Reds of Santa Maria Novella and Whites of Santo Spirito. On June 16th the second match between Blues of Santa Croce and Greens of San Giovanni. The winners will dispute the finale on Monday June 24th, that is San Giovanni, the patron of Florence.

In San Gimignano from June 14th to 16th the Fiera delle Messi, medieval reenactment with several shows and exhibits by the Cavalieri di Santa Fina, while on June 30th is NottiLucente a night event with free concerts and exhibits. In Gambassi Terme from June 17th to 23rd Gambassigena with a rich calendar of wine and food tastings, guided tours and much more.

In Cortona from June 7th to June 9th we go back to the Middle Ages with historical reenactments and the Jouster of Archidado.

Markets and Fairs

On Saturday and Sunday June 1st and 2nd at Villa di Cigliano near San Casciano in Chianti there is the flower and arts and crafts market that will include a special workshop about Tuscan bread. On Sunday June 2nd in Gaiole in Chianti the flower market, while in Carmignano and San Giuliano Terme there will be the antiques market.

On the same weekend at Fattoria di Luiano near San Casciano in Chianti Let it Beef, as special event of Chianti Classico è with music, wine and beef while looking at the vineyards. In Lamole, near Greve in Chianti, Profumi di Lamole from May 31st to June 2nd with wine and food tastings. In Radda in Chianti is back Radda nel bicchiere with two days of wine tastings on June 1st and 2nd, and on Sunday there is the Palio delle Massaie, where the best homemakers from Chianti fight each other with the most delicious dishes of their towns.
